How I Won the Late-Night Light Battle Without Starting a Fight

At that point, my spouse Gia and I made the decision to take action—or, more accurately, devise a plan—in order to resume our sleep. Because Susan was scared of the dark, our lovely neighbors the Thompsons installed floodlights that beamed directly into our bedroom. Gia politely requested that Susan reconsider, but she was adamant about leaving the lights on as they gave her a sense of security when her husband Mark was not around.

Nothing we tried would be effective. We experimented with rearranging chairs, installing blackout curtains, and even offering to set a timer. Mark was as stern, prioritizing his wife’s security over our rest. I was so angry and desperate that I decided to take matters into my own hands.

When the women had left, I crept over and let go of the bulbs. The flickering of the lights before they went out pleased me. Our home was quiet and serene that evening, but that didn’t stop Mark and me from playing cat and mouse. I would turn the lights loose, and he would tighten them. Each of us was attempting to deceive the other.

He was genuinely confused when Mark casually mentioned how frequently the lights went out one day. Seizing the opportunity, I proposed that street traffic noises could be the cause. Mark startled me by agreeing. The lights were considered to be unnecessary bothersome. We finally got the sleep we’d been craving thanks to our unconventional approach.

Ultimately, it was a very ingenious concept that prevented our families from growing apart. We discovered that, on sometimes, issues that appear insurmountable can be resolved with a little imagination and comprehension.
