Actress LisaRaye recently took to social media to announce the tragic passing of her mother, Katie McCoy. LisaRaye shared that her mother had passed away the previous night, leaving her feeling numb and finding it difficult to come to terms with her loss.
While LisaRaye has not shared any details regarding the cause of her mother’s death, she did express her profound love and admiration for her mother in her announcement. LisaRaye said that her mother had taught her to be strong, but she was finding it hard to be strong at the moment. She promised to celebrate her mother’s life and cherish the memories she shared with her.

Katie McCoy, along with her husband David Ray McCoy, gave birth to LisaRaye in 1967. Unfortunately, David Ray McCoy passed away in 1988, and his death deeply affected LisaRaye. In fact, she made a death pact with him, agreeing to take her own life if he passed away before her. After his death, she tried to commit suicide by driving her car into a tree.
LisaRaye and her mother Katie had a complicated relationship, which was highlighted on an episode of Iyanla’s Fix My Life in 2020. The mother-daughter duo struggled to see eye-to-eye, with LisaRaye’s close relationship with her late father causing friction between them. Despite their differences, they shared a tremendous amount of love for each other.
Years after the episode, the mother-daughter duo appeared to be in a much better place. LisaRaye and her mother had worked through their issues, and LisaRaye shared her love for her mother on Instagram, using hashtags such as #MothersLove and #MissYouSoMuch.
