Michael J. Fox, the beloved actor most known for his iconic performance in “Back To The Future,” is experiencing a deep feeling of grief with the death of his beloved companion, twelve-year-old Great Dane-Labrador mix Gus.
Gus had been a constant in Fox’s life for the previous twelve years, supporting her through all of the highs and lows. The performer has to face the world without Gus, his devoted companion at his side.
A heartfelt picture of Gus was published by Fox on social media with the caption, “Gus — great dog and loyal friend, we’ll miss you.” Fox has one million followers on the platform. The actor also mentioned Gus as his “wonder dog”—a source of happiness and loyalty—on pages 220-222 of his 2020 memoir, “No Time Like The Future: an Optimist Considers Mortality.”
Gus had a big impact on Fox’s life, particularly throughout his two-decade public struggle with Parkinson’s disease. In his biography, the actor emphasized the importance of Gus and expressed how dearly the family will miss him as an invaluable part.
Thinking back on their close relationship, Fox writes, “I didn’t save Gus. You could say he saved me, although he wouldn’t be so arrogant to say so. Fox noted that when he felt alone due to his health issues, Gus’s unwavering companionship brought him comfort.
Fox claimed that owning a dog like Gus gave her a reassuring sense of community and served as a force multiplier despite her severe sickness. He thinks that having a dog can provide much-needed company and help to overcome the isolation that frequently accompanies health issues.
Gus was also helpful in Fox’s physical recuperation. Gus played a crucial role in helping Fox regain his ability to walk after he underwent spinal cord surgery in 2018, which left him dependent on a wheelchair. Fox recalled with fondness, “He sat in front of the wheelchair directly in front of me and kind of circled it with this low kind of woof woof, woof woof. “It’s going to be okay,” I replied as he turned to face me.
Like everyone else, Michael J. Fox finds losing a beloved pet to be difficult.
