As a result of the rise of social media, we are continuously exposed to images of people who seem to have ideal appearances; it appears that society has become even more superficial in its evaluation of others.
When complete strangers feel forced to form an opinion about someone based just on how they appear on social media, the world can seem immensely cruel to those of us who don’t follow the stereotypical “perfect” pattern.
Karine de Souza is the only one who is better knowledgable about this. The Brazilian woman has spent her entire life wearing SPF100 sunscreens on her skin, even inside, due to her peculiar skin condition.
The 33-year-old woman has Xeroderma Pigmentosum, which puts her at a high risk for developing skin cancer.
Because of her “one-in-a-million” illness, which is incurable and precludes her from being able to repair whatever skin damage the sun may have caused, she is very vulnerable to UV radiation.
After just a few minutes in the sun, she can experience an agonizing sunburn. She was frequently cut off from the outside world as a child since it was too dangerous for her to spend much time outside her home.
“When I expose myself to the light, nothing happens right away; I don’t feel anything. However, she added, the lesions do subsequently evolve into cancer and need to be removed.
Karine has had 130 surgeries to remove sunburns, including the amputation of her bottom lip and a portion of her nose.
However, she faces more than simply a physical challenge. Both online and off, Karine has received verbal abuse, and she frequently draws strange looks when she crosses the street.
She still maintains a positive outlook on life despite having found love.
She met her husband Edmilson through social media, and he was enthralled by her “story and her strength.” Edmilson is certain that he wants to spend the rest of his days with Karine because he has always supported her.
He also decided to add Karine’s three children from her previous marriage, who naturally meant a lot to her.
In her words, “he came and he showed me that I could live a true love story.”
However, after posting images of the two of them online, Karine once more came under fire for doing.
Karine reportedly told the Daily Mail, “We have already read many offensive comments calling me a monster, deformed, or a zombie.”
Other comments suggested that their relationship wasn’t genuine, that Karine was a “sugar mommy,” and that she must be extraordinarily affluent.
Young and gorgeous, he caught people’s attention, and they assumed he wouldn’t be with me because he genuinely liked me, Karine said.
After the couple’s engagement, a photographer took some pictures of them and posted them online with the caption:

Thousands of people expressed their admiration for Karine and Edmilson in response to his heartfelt remarks and the beautiful photos he took of them.
Karine wants people to realize how crucial optimism is.
She urged, “Be joyful and smile because life only comes around once.”
Karine and Edmlson happily brought a daughter into the world in 2023. Zaia was a much-anticipated addition to the family for Karine and her husband, who had been trying to conceive since 2020.
Despite the difficulties Karine has encountered, her optimistic outlook has helped her find the happiness she so richly deserves.
