TRAGIC LOSS. The Funniest Man in America has passed away today

James Gregory, a comedian who was dubbed “the Funniest Man in America,” passed away on May 9 from cardiac issues. His legacy of bringing laughter into many lives was highlighted by his family as they announced his death with sadness.

At the age of eleven, James, who was born in Lithonia, Georgia, in 1946, started working in his family’s grocery store. He served in the Marines for a short time before turning to comedy at the age of 36, which helped him become well-known in the Southeast.


Over his 41-year career, he performed for US troops all over the world. Candie, Martha Anne, and Mary Jane, his nieces, took care of him in his last days. November will see the publication of his memoir, A Bushel of Beans and a Peck of Tomatoes:
