In late 2022, Haddish was embroiled in a sketch with Aries Spears that featured two youngsters in dubious settings. Her career has suffered since she and the family settled out of court. Her return to screens and involvement in Girls Trip 2 are unwelcome.

Despite criticism, the film will be shot in Ghana. Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, and Queen Latifah will reprise Dina.
