An altercation between a substitute teacher and a student at Rocky Mount High School on has prompted an investigation by the police and Nash County Public Schools.
The incident was reportedly over the confiscation of a cell phone
Video footage of the incident shows the student and the teacher arguing before the encounter escalates and becomes physical. The teacher, Xaviera Steele, has been with the school system for approximately a year, and as of Monday afternoon, no charges have been filed.
The policy code notes that “administrators may authorize individual students to use wireless communication devices for personal purposes when there is a reasonable need for such communication.”
Police and the school system are investigating, and no injuries were reported.
