Sara Geurts, a 31-year-old model, has a rare skin disorder. However, it did not stop her from sending positive messages about body and self-love. She says: “You’re beautiful and can achieve whatever you want.”
Sara has a rare skin disorder.
When she was 10 years old, Sara was diagnosed with a rare skin condition that causes wrinkled skin, severe joint pain, and brittle bones. Her dream was to become a model when she grew up.
A beauty campaign changed her life.
In 2015, Geurts sent her story regarding the #LoveYourLines campaign, and the team behind it approved and shared it.
Sara shared that she was very insecure about her skin. She said that she wanted to hide it. Now she talks about it for millions of people struggling with body image.
Geurts learned how to embrace her beauty.
She said that it was challenging to like her body and her disorder. “With every opportunity, I noticed my strength, growth, and transformed perspective,” she added.
It took her a while to learn to embrace her beauty. She has developed the confidence needed to overcome her insecurities. In an essay for The Mighty, Geurts wrote that a failed love story in her past made her reconsider her body image.
She broke fashion stereotypes!
She took it upon herself to break the stereotypes in the fashion and beauty industry. “I aim to break society’s transparent barriers of perfection. Barriers that subliminally tell us all to be perfect in all aspects of life, work, social and personal interactions,” said Sara.
