Until the shadows of disease cast a shade over her path, Zoey’s lively soul shone brightly in the gentle innocence of her childhood. When Zoey was only three years old, her family had the shocking discovery that she had cancer. This was a turning point in her life never predicted.
Until the beginning of her illness, Zoey exemplified the joy that comes with being young. Her laughter could be heard reverberating through the rooms of her warm and welcoming house. She had tremendous vitality, and she had the ability to embrace each day with delight and enthusiasm, just like any other child her age would.
On the other hand, a misstep that occurred during playtime revealed a terrible truth. In the weeks that followed, Zoey’s family became concerned when they noticed that she had lost control of her little hands. This was an indication that encouraged them to seek medical evaluation.
Zoey was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and severe brain tumour, which was a tragic piece of news that reverberated across the halls of the hospital. It was a devastating blow for her parents, Casey and Ben, and it was a nightmare that they had never dreamed they would have to face.
“We had no idea what to do or where to go,” someone said. An emotional tone could be heard in Casey’s voice as she stated that they had been informed that it is essentially a death sentence.
The family mustered the strength to be resilient and set off on a trip that was plagued with therapies and uncertainty, despite the profound despair they were experiencing. In an effort to find some peace and quiet, they went to a radiation therapy facility in Germany, where Zoey’s spirit was able to find some temporary relief.
In spite of this, Zoey’s condition continued to deteriorate over the course of time, which threw a shadow of inevitability over their lives. On July 4, 2018, Zoey passed away in the tranquilly of their American home, leaving behind a gap that could never be filled. Her passing was a peaceful one.
Zoey’s light continued to flare, dazzling the hearts of those whose lives she touched, even as they spent their dying moments together, surrounded by loved ones and the strains of Disney songs.
Casey made the courageous decision to publicly post their story on Facebook after being profoundly moved by the stunning beauty of their daughter’s final moments. One of the most moving photographs ever taken shows Sarah and Ben holding Zoey in their arms, their most treasured memories recorded in the midst of the melancholy melody of a Harry Potter film.
Casey remarked, “It’s a painful moment, but it’s beautiful in our eyes,” and her remarks echoed the resiliency of a mother’s love for her child.
In an effort to honour their daughter’s legacy, the family has created a Facebook page called “Zoey’s Light,” with the goal of bringing love and hope to a world that has been affected by darkness. Even after suffering an unfathomable loss, they have not wavered in their commitment to their objective, which is to instill compassion and kindness in people by making each day a little bit more ordinary.
As Zoey’s light continues to lead them, her memory will continue to shine as a beacon of love and resiliency in their everyday lives. The soul of Zoey will forever be a treasured guardian angel to Casey and Ben, whose unflinching strength has touched the hearts of countless people.
Sweet Zoey, may you rest in peace knowing that your light will shine forever.
