Lizzo pleads with fans to stop commenting on her body

Lizzo is urging people to refrain from making comments about her body and instead adopt the concept of “body neutrality”.

Speaking to The Cut recently, the ‘About Damn Time’ singer, 34, said: “Just because you don’t look like the majority of the people in the room doesn’t mean you’re not beautiful. Body normativity is just not remarking on people’s bodies. It’s about body neutrality and normalizing the differences people have.”

Further explaining how body neutrality works, she went on to say: “I don’t need your positivity or your negativity. I don’t need your comments at all. How about that? Just keep it pushing.”

She added: “If you see somebody who has body augmentation, mind your business. If you see somebody who’s thin, mind your business. That’s where I’m at. I don’t need you to praise or hate on my body. I just need you to shut up, mind your business, and mind your own body.”

The ‘Juice’ hitmaker has previously been outspoken on issues about body positivity and body shaming.

Just last week, she took to TikTok to declare that she is the “beauty standard” as she called out the haters who constantly make negative comments about her appearance.

She told her more than 26 million followers at the time: “I just finished showering and doing my little routine. And you know what I realised? I am f***ing gorgeous. I am the beauty standard. Catch up, b****!”

In the caption of the video, she shared: “I’ve seen way too many TikTok lives discussing my body lately… Y’all OK?”

This comes after fellow singer Ariana Grande addressed her own fans’ concerns about her body and pleaded with them to keep their opinions to themselves.

She said in a TikTok video: “I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body and to be seen and to be paid such close attention to.

“I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies, no matter what. If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is: healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, not sexy… we just shouldn’t.”

She continued: “There are many different kinds of beautiful. There are many different ways to look healthy and beautiful.

Explaining why she was sharing this powerful message, Grande said: “The body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of antidepressants, drinking on them, eating poorly, and at the lowest point of my life when I looked the way you consider, my healthy.”

The chart-topper, 29, concluded her video, saying: “I just think you’re beautiful and wanted to share some feelings.”
