Kate Middleton attended the King’s Coronation alongside Prince William, looking stunning in an ivory Alexander McQueen dress. The Princess of Wales arrived in London, dressed elegantly in the ivory silk crepe gown decorated with silver bullion and thread embroidery of motifs of rose, thistle, daffodil, and shamrock, representing four nations.
Instead of a tiara, Kate Middleton, 41, opted for a Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpiece, designed with three-dimensional leaf embroidery in silver bullion, crystal, and silver thread work.
The Princess of Wales has often opted for Alexander McQueen for significant moments in her life, including her wedding dress designed by creative director Sarah Burton. Kate completed her look with a set of pearl and diamond earrings, which has previously been worn at the 2019 BAFTAs. Notably, the earrings belong to Princess Diana who wore them to events including a banquet for the Japanese Emperor Akihito in 1990 and a gala at the Palace of Versailles in 1994.
Kate no doubt honored her late mother-in-law with the earrings that featured a double curve of various cuts of diamond, with a hanging pearl, gifted to Diana before her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.
Prior to the coronation, the Princess of Wales had commanded attention at a reception at Buckingham Palace where she wore a new £360 Self-Portrait wrap midi dress. She was seen with foreign royals, world leaders, and dignitaries, including Queen Letizia of Spain. Kate completed the look with the Queen Mother’s sapphire and diamond earrings. She also had her hair styled in tight curls and a side parting.
At the reception, Kate looked relaxed and engaged in conversation with guests, Crown Princess Mary, Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, and US First Lady Jill Biden while King Charles chatted with Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine and President Zelensky’s wife.
Prince William equally joined members of the royal family in greeting guests as final preparations were underway for the historic coronation ceremony. The world awaited the coronation of Charles III at Westminster Abbey, marking the first coronation of a British monarch in 70 years. After being heir since the age of three, Charles III was ready to embrace his day of destiny with his wife by his side.
VIP guests reportedly queued for a mile from the Abbey from 6 am to secure one of the 2,300 prime seats and despite a forecasted rain, over 2 million people from all over the UK, Commonwealth, and the world still arrived at central London.
Soldiers taking part in the ceremony were spotted at the mainline station and guests of the King, including 100 heads of state and representatives from 203 countries, arrived at the Abbey 4 hours before the ceremony. The coronation ceremony, which dates back 1,000 years, was steeped in the majesty of Charles III’s illustrious forebears and embraced the proud diversity of modern-day Britain. A senior royal aide aimed to minimize any “them and us” element during the ceremony.
However, Charles III has been crowned with his wife, Camilla, who was anointed and received Queen Mary’s Crown on her head, becoming known as Queen Camilla.
Yesterday, Queen Consort, 75, made a brief public appearance when she joined her husband for a final rehearsal at the Abbey. Sources revealed she did not attend any other public engagements with him as she wanted to take it slow and ensure the day was all about her husband. A friend of the Queen Consort disclosed she always wants her husband to shine and loves him unconditionally. The source further shared that the couple eventually retired to enjoy a private dinner at their London home, Clarence House.
