According to Jeff Bezos, future generations will give birth in space while residing on space colonies.
He claimed on Wednesday that establishing space colonies was a better idea than leaving Earth.
Elon Musk and SpaceX, Bezos’ principal space competitor, have as their main objective colonising Mars.

During a conversation on Wednesday at the 2021 Ignatius Forum in Washington, DC, Bezos talked about space, Blue Origin’s objectives, and the connection between space exploration and preserving Earth.
The creator of Amazon and Blue Origin spoke on his plan for floating settlements that replicate Earth’s weather and gravitational pull throughout the interview. According to him, the floating, rotating cylinders would include “rivers, forests, and wildlife,” and could accommodate up to 1 million people.
“Numerous people will be born in space over many centuries. Their first residence, Bezos stated. “They will dwell and give birth in these colonies. Then, students will explore Earth as you would explore, say, Yellowstone National Park.
Bezos initially broached the subject of establishing space colonies in his valedictorian speech at his high school graduation, and he reiterated the concept on Wednesday, saying he thought it was preferable to trying to reestablish life on another planet.
“Even if you were to terraform Mars or do something very dramatic like that — which could be very, very challenging, by the way — even if you were to do that, that is, at most, a doubling of Earth,” added Bezos. The population increases from 10 billion to 20 billion.
One of the main points of contention between Bezos and Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla and SpaceX, is how to develop life outside of Earth. Bezos’ allusion to terraforming seems to be an indirect dig at Musk, who has stated that the primary objective of his rocket firm is to “colonise Mars.” Musk has supported the notion that it would take the use of nuclear weapons to alter the planet and make it habitable for humanity (NASA has later stated that this wouldn’t work). This theory is straight out of science fiction.
Likewise, Bezos’ proposal wouldn’t work, according to Musk, who tweeted in 2019 that you would need to “transport vast amounts of mass from planets/moons/asteroids.”
That “would be like trying to build the USA in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean,” he remarked.
