After the birth of their youngest daughter, Alyxandra, Tyne Daly made an interesting statement. She explained that we had written “human” under “race,” “yes” under “sex,” and “citizen of the world” under “ethnic origin” on her birth certificate.
Daly said, “I have a good and interesting marriage that has gone on for quite some time,” in reference to her union with Brown.
When Brown started directing, he was honored with the Primetime Emmy Award for Best Director in a Drama Series in 1986. For directing the last episode of “Cagney & Lacey,” he was given this honor.
Daly persisted in pursuing her acting profession in the interim. She performed on Broadway in a number of shows. Her most well-known performances include Maria Callas in “Master Class” (2011), Cynthia Nixon in “Rabbit Hole” (2006), and Madame Arkadina in “The Seagull” (1992).
Brown and Daly filed for divorce in 1990, having been married for 24 years. After a protracted marriage, they were forced to call it quits since they could not work out their differences.
They separated after more than 20 years of marriage, yet their love and will to face discrimination never stop inspiring.
