Donnie McClurkin’s preference has been a topic of discussion for years. The gospel legend and spiritual leader has been open about his struggles throughout his decades long career. Donnie says the urges to be with men have stayed with him over the years, but his commitment to his savior has not allowed him to act on them.
Donnie McClurkin first opened up about his preference in 2002. At the time, McClurkin blamed his attraction to men on a terrible experience he suffered at a young age. The gospel singer says that early exposure to adult content and interaction with men is what made him attracted to men.
Donnie says he was violated at the age of 8. “Before I could ever know the purpose or pleasure of a woman, have my first date or even my first kiss, the wound was inflicted, and the seed was planted.”
Through will and prayer, Donnie has turned the tide on his desire for men. Rejecting the lifestyle, Donnie has said, “I’ve been through this and have experienced God’s power to change my lifestyle. I am delivered, and I know God can deliver others, too.”
The 63-year-old was engaged for a time to Nicole C. Mullen, and the two had plans to walk down the aisle. Mullen is a fellow Christian artist who is known for songs like “Don’t Let Me Go.” The pair entered a relationship in 2013. Unfortunately for Donnie, his deep-seated desire to be with men made the union hard.
Despite what his body was naturally gravitating towards, he insisted on following the way of the Bible and ignoring his natural urges or perversions. Donnie’s status as an “ex-homosexual” and his firm stance against same-sex marriage has put him at odds with several people. His new views have also cost him a lot of money.
Donnie MCClurkin was scheduled to perform at Barak Obama’s 2008 Inauguration but was dis-invited due to his views. The same thing happened to him again in August of 2013, when he was asked to not attend the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
In a TV One interview with Uncensored, Donnie opened up more about how his ‘former preference’ has impacted his relationship with women. He admits to not knowing how to make Nicole happy during their union and how it drove them apart.
The gospel singer admits he doesn’t have a clue when it comes to being in a committed relationship. He also admits he’s messed up more than he’s done good. “My past relationships were a sprinkling of everything, men and women. I don’t know how to do this.”
Donnie says that he’s never been in a long-term relationship as a result of his struggle. Instead, it’s just been a bunch of shorter connections. His relationship woes have him believing that he might just end up alone in the end. Many people took pity on him through social media and shared their thoughts on his self-imposed solitude. “Donnie McClurkin thinking he’ll be alone for the rest of his life saddens me beyond words. It truly does,” said one person. Another said, “I hate that Donnie McClurkin feels like he’s gonna die alone.”
Despite constantly having urge Donnie has remained committed to his love for women.
