Photographs included in the 37-count indictment filed against Donald Trump shows a huge number of boxes allegedly found at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence.
As per BBC News, the 76-year-old former POTUS has been charged with mishandling hundreds of classified documents.
According to the indictment filing, the classified papers contained information related to issues such as defense and weapons capabilities of both the US and other countries, US plans for a possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack, and possible vulnerabilities of the US and its allies in the event of a military attack.
Prosecutors claim that Trump – who recently announced plans to run for Presidency in 2024 – took approximately 300 classified files to his Palm Beach home and private members club, Mar-a-Lago.
Trump is also accused of attempting to obstruct the investigation into the handling of the documents, according to the indictment that was unsealed on Friday.
In response to the claims, Trump released a four-minute-long video denying any wrongdoing and blasting the US military for being “woke”.
“I just want to tell you, I’m an innocent man. I did nothing wrong,” he says in the video. “And we will fight this out just like we’ve been fighting for seven years. It would be wonderful if we could devote our full time to making America great again. And that’s exactly what we did. But now, again, our country is in decline.
“We’re a failing nation, and this is what they do. I’m an innocent man. We will prove that again.”
Now, photos included in the indictment have been revealed by the Department of Justice.
Former President Donald Trump has been charged with mishandling hundreds of classified documents, including about US nuclear secrets and military plans.
The 37-count indictment accuses him of keeping the files at his Florida estate, including in a ballroom and a shower, and lying to investigators.
The images – which the indictment claims were taken and shared by Trump aide Walt Nauta – show boxes of documents in various locations; allegedly at Mar-a-Lago. They can be seen below:
One image shows boxes stacked on a ballroom stage, another in a bathroom next to a toilet and shower.
The indictment reads that despite Trump welcoming hundreds of guests to Mar-a-Lago, he “stored his boxes containing classified documents in various locations at The Mar-a-Lago Club — including in a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room.”
Per CBS News, Nauta has also been charged by the special counsel as part of their probe into Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified information.
