A 12-year-old boy appeared in court this week after being accused of killing a woman with her own car, and he appeared to smile when standing in the dock.
The boy – who can’t be named due to legal reasons – appeared in the youth court in Sheffield in the UK after 60-year-old Marcia Grant died on Wednesday (April 5)
As per the Mirror, Grant lost her life after becoming trapped under her car which is believed to have been reversed over her at a high speed outside of her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
After being remanded at a youth detention center on Saturday, the boy appeared in court where he is reported to have been fidgeting and looking at those present, which included journalists and social workers.
The 12-year-old stood in the glass dock for around 30 minutes, flanked on either side by police officers where he confirmed his identity and occasionally let slip a small smile, per The Mirror.
During the hearing, Grant was described by her family and friends as “a warm, loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend,” and a “pillar of the community”.
“Her loss has already sent shockwaves through all who knew her or was lucky enough to be included in her orbit,” the statement added via South Yorkshire Police.
Floral tributes have appeared outside of Grants’s home as members of the community pay their respects to the beloved 60-year-old.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Bowell, from South Yorkshire Police, said, via the Daily Mail: “This will be a deeply distressing time for the families of those involved in this incident, and I would ask their privacy is respected as they seek to understand what has happened.”
South Yorkshire Police are asking anybody with any additional information to come forward.
Our thoughts are with Grant’s family and friends at this difficult time.
