Many people still think that the spikes on tires are to prevent slipping

In response, vent spews—tiny spikes on motorcycle tires—are a byproduct of tire production. The tire’s functionality is unaffected by these tiny spikes, though. Actually, the correct term for these fibers is vent spews.

In order to allow air bubbles to escape and stop them from developing inside the tire, tire molds are frequently made with a large number of tiny vents. When that occurs, a portion of the melted rubber and air bubbles both escape through these vents. This is thought to be the outcome of vent spew creation.
