Terri shared her thoughts on Steve’s demise, saying, “He never could have imagined that he would live for such a long time.” He couldn’t shake the feeling that his life was going to be cut short at any moment.

Terri recalled the moment she was given the tragic news and stated how she was overcome with an overpowering sense of loss and responsibility. “I just remember this incredible sense of responsibility, this feeling of overwhelming grief, but I was thinking to myself, ‘What do I decide to do next?'” “I kind of gathered my thoughts, and then I had to go out to the car and tell Bindi and Robert… which was a really difficult task.”
In spite of the tremendous loss, Terri was moved by the overwhelming support she received from individuals all over the world. “No one would’ve been more surprised than Steve at the outpouring of grief and love,” she pointed out. In Steve’s mind, the word “famous” was not even a possibility. We did give whatever we made for wildlife and still do back into conservation, and I am really pleased of that. He was never pretentious, and he never made a big deal out of himself. I appreciated that about him.
