The process of rescuing animals can be difficult, and the fire captain Brian Vaughan demonstrated the perseverance, accuracy, and care that are required in cases like this last week. During the course of their response to an urgent call, Vaughan and his colleagues found eight black-colored puppies that were trapped inside of a drain well. In the beginning, it was thought that the puppies were abandoned black Labradors; nevertheless, the rescue took an unexpected turned.
As soon as the fire department arrived, all of the animals were successfully extracted from the sewer, and they appeared to be unhurt. This took place within twenty minutes. The puppies that had been saved were then given to the Humane Rescue Organisation that operates in the Pikes Peak Region subsequently. On the other hand, it was not until they arrived at the organisation that they discovered the shocking reality: they had not rescued Labrador puppies but rather a group of red fox cubs.
During an interview with CBS in Denver, Vaughan related the shocking discovery, citing a veterinarian who addressed the situation by saying, “No, these are not Labradors; they are foxes.”
It was in the regions surrounding the Rocky Mountains, which are home to a significant number of foxes, that the occurrence took place. Travis Sauder, the District Manager for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, noted that this time of year sees an increase in the number of births that occur in wildlife. He also mentioned that animals frequently choose to give birth in little dens that can be encountered by people who enjoy being outside.
The fact that the fire department was the one to get the call for assistance was not something that Sauder found surprising, given the circumstances. According to him, “This time of year there are a lot of animals that are starting to have their young, and they have them in small dens that are places that we can encounter when we’re recreating in the outdoors like we like to do.”
According to the current plan, the fox cubs will be placed back into the pipe in the expectation that their mother would come back to take care of them. Sauder emphasised, “If the mother is no longer present, we have the ability to take them to a licenced rehabilitation facility.”
These firefighters in rescued what they thought were puppies from a storm drain… but it turns out they’re red foxes!
What to do now?

When it comes to wildlife, misunderstandings are not uncommon, and experts recommend that before trying any kind of rescue, one should first seek the assistance of a professional in order to identify the creatures that are involved. Actions that are carried out with the best of intentions can occasionally have unforeseen repercussions, which may adversely affect wild animals.
It is currently hoped that these fox cubs will be able to successfully rejoin with their mother. This highlights the significance of accurate identification and the engagement of professionals in cases involving the rescue of wildlife or other animals.
