A police officer and his wife were found shot to death in their North Carolina home.
Officer Domingo Tavarez-Rodriguez sparked concern when he didn’t show up to his 6 pm shift Friday night, authorities said.
State agents are investigating the deaths as a double homicide, Fayetteville Police Chief Kemberle Braden said during a news conference.
Tavarez-Rodriguez’s police department said he had been off work for several days. When he didn’t show up for his shift or answer his phone, supervisors went to his house and found the bodies, Braden added.
The chief said Tavarez-Rodriguez and his wife, Yenitza Arroyo Torres, were both shot. He did not say if the home was broken into or give any other details about their deaths, ABC News reported.
Domingo Tavarez-Rodriguez retired from the military and worked with the Fayetteville police department as an officer for almost two years.
The State Bureau of Investigation has taken over the investigation, Braden said.
