‘Red Table Talk’ Canceled At Facebook As Meta Shifts Strategy, Series Looking For New Home

Jada Pinkett Smith’s Emmy-winning Facebook series Red Table Talk has been canceled. The news comes as Mina Lefevre, Meta’s head of development and programming, has announced her departure from Facebook.

1.

Deadline reports that Lefevre’s departure comes as Meta announces layoffs that have led to over 20,000 employees losing their jobs. Facebook has also decided to reduce their focus on original programming. No Facebook Watch Originals are set to return to the social media site with Meta turning towards VR experiences in Meta Horizon Worlds. Other canceled Facebook Watch Originals hosted by Black personalities along with Red Table Talk also include Piece of Mind with Taraji and Steve on Watch, according to The Wrap.

2.

Red Table Talk also led to the spinoff Red Table Talk: The Estefans, which also isn’t returning. However, Deadline reports that Westbrook, the Smith family’s production company, announced that Red Table Talk is shopping the series to other outlets.

3.

Red Table Talk starred Pinkett Smith, her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and Pinkett Smith’s daughter Willow Smith as they talked about intergenerational topics and, of course, controversial and personal topics. Recently, Red Table Talk covered Pinkett Smith’s own issues within her marriage to Will Smith, including the “entanglements” conversation regarding her relationship with musician August Alsina. Will Smith also had an infamous heart-to-heart with Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Janet Hubert about his mistreatment of her.
