Michael Jordan, former NBA player, entrepreneur, and the greatest basketball player ever, celebrated his 60th birthday with a record-setting $10 million donation to Make-A-Wish Foundation. The organization grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses on their birthdays. Jordan’s generous donation is the largest in the foundation’s 43-year history.
Since joining the Chicago Bulls in 1984, Jordan has granted hundreds of wishes for Make-A-Wish Foundation. The organization reports that he is one of the most requested celebrities. Disney World and meeting Jordan are among the most popular wishes granted to children.
Jordan hopes his donation will inspire people to support Make-A-Wish Foundation, stating, “Over the past 34 years, it has been a pleasure to work with Make-A-Wish and contribute to the happiness and happiness of so many children. Their bravery and tenacity during such a difficult time has been inspiring. I can’t think of a better birthday present than having people support Make-A-Wish so every child can experience the wonder of having their wish fulfilled.”
One of Jordan’s most memorable wishes granted was in 2000 when he met an 11-year-old girl named Katie who had to give up her basketball career after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Meeting Jordan helped her get through all her treatments and inspired fresh thoughts and dreams. She survived her brain tumor and worked five years at Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic.
Jordan’s donation will grant Make-A-Wish wishes and contribute to the happiness of countless children. His multi-year donations to nonprofits, such as the Boys and Girls Club, have also made headlines. In 2021, Jordan committed $10 million to open two new medical facilities in North Carolina, where he is a native and Charlotte Hornets owner.
Despite donating $10 million and granting hundreds of wishes, Jordan is not the top donor for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Actor and professional wrestler John Cena has granted 650 wishes since 2002 and holds the Guinness World Records for the most wishes granted at 400.
Jordan’s generous donation to Make-A-Wish Foundation is yet another example of his kindness and philanthropic efforts. His generosity will undoubtedly bring happiness to many children and inspire others to support charitable causes.
