When the man finally arrived at the dental office on a Wednesday morning, he was visibly worried. It was a regular Wednesday morning. As he sat in the chair, they noticed that his palms were sweating and that his eyes were darting rapidly. This was not his first time going to the dentist, but it had been quite some time since he had been there. Needles had been a source of anxiety for him ever since he was a child, and he was absolutely petrified of them.
He was immediately put at ease by the calm manner of the female dentist, Dr. Johnson, who approached him with a friendly grin. She said that in order to guarantee that he was comfortable throughout the extraction process, his treatment would require some kind of anesthesia before it could be performed.
She stated, “First, I’ll need to give you a numbing shot,” as she prepared the needle for your injection.
The patient’s face became discolored and pallid. The sight of the needle glimmering under the bright lights of the examination room caused his heart to begin beating faster.
None of that! Not even a needle! At that moment, his voice was shaking as he blurted out, “I despise needles!”
The compassionate nod from Dr. Johnson indicated that he was familiar with people who experienced oral fear. That’s fine, there won’t be any issues. Other choices are available to us.”
When she needed to calm her anxiety during the treatment, she went for the nitrous oxide, which is a sedative that is routinely used. For the purpose of providing him with a more relaxing experience, she began to attach the gas to the mask. His uneasiness, however, returned to its previous level as soon as he laid eyes on the mask.
None of that! My ability to do the gas thing is limited. The whole idea of wearing a mask makes me feel like I’m going to suffocate! His tone became increasingly distressed as he voiced his objections.
After a little break, Dr. Johnson returned his attention to the arguments he had raised. She was resolute in her efforts to ensure that he faced this experience with the least amount of discomfort possible. “Would you be open to taking a pill to help you relax instead?” she inquired after a little pause in the conversation.
After a brief period of hesitation, the patient eventually gave a nod. “There is absolutely no reservation,” he stated. “I have no problem taking medicines. Whatever is successful.”
A grin of encouragement was given to him by her. Wonderful! Right now, I’ll be right back.”
When Dr. Johnson came back a few minutes later, she was holding a little pill in her palm. She positioned it on the counter next to him and left it there.
“Here is your medication,” she stated to the patient.
With a raised eyebrow, the patient peered down at the tablet that was being administered. “Wait a minute,” he remarked, expressing his confusion. “Is it a dose of pain medication? To my surprise, I was unaware that medications might be used to treat pain.
As he held out the plain tablet, Dr. Johnson let out a barely audible giggle. The response that she gave was, “Oh, it’s not a painkiller.” “But it’ll do the job for you.”
Bewildered, the patient couldn’t help but stare at her. “What did you mean by that? “What exactly is it going to do?”
While retaining his composure and professionalism, Dr. Johnson made a little inward lean toward the wall. “Well, it’s a Viagra.”
As a result of the man’s shock, his eyes expanded. Is it vigra? Is that Viagra that you’re giving me? In a state of bewilderment, he gazed at her.
The smile on Dr. Johnson’s face became wider. Affirmative, I am. Don’t worry, however, since it’s not what you think it is. It’s not for the reason that you would possibly think.”
For a considerable amount of time, the patient gazed at the pill, displaying a sense of uncertainty. “Haha! ” “I had no idea that Viagra could be used as a painkiller,” he said, his uncertainty growing during the conversation.
“It doesn’t, but it will give you something to hold onto when I pull your tooth,” Dr. Johnson answered as she leaned back in her chair and said.
Upon finally comprehending the joke, the patient’s jaw dropped to the ground. A smile appeared on his face for the very first time as the morning progressed. Even though he was still feeling a little anxious, he laughed and said, “Well, I guess that’s one way to make sure I stay calm.”
“Exactly,” she remarked with a wink that she gave. “And no more objections to the pill?”
He chuckled awkwardly and shook his head in consternation. “I’m fine, I’m OK. I will take the medication. I would appreciate it if you could be gentle with my tooth.
While he was still laughing at the unexpected turn the appointment had taken, Dr. Johnson placed the tablet in front of him and he took it. During the time when the prescription was beginning to take effect, the anxiety that had been consuming him earlier started to dissipate. The operation, which was still a little nerve-wracking, became a little easier to handle during the course of the treatment.
After everything was said and done, the tooth was extracted without much difficulty, and the man was able to get something to hang onto, albeit it was not in the way that he had anticipated. In a way that he would never forget, he expressed his gratitude to Dr. Johnson for her hilarious sense of humor and for assisting him in getting through a challenging session.
