Unexpected surprises are a common occurrence in life. It may seem like just another ordinary day when you wake up, but then something utterly unexpected occurs, making it an unforgettable moment.

I got a lottery ticket from a guy at my previous job. I give it a scratch. The winner is 10k.

I told him I hadn’t scratched it when he came by later. He went out. My heart was pounding wildly. The next time he stops by, I’m going to tell him it wasn’t a winner.

My receipt was inadvertently left at the self-checkout kiosk. A woman came running over and smiled as she gave it to me. She remarked, “You dropped this.” After thanking her, I walked out.

I noticed something strange when I unpacked the groceries after I got home. “Check your tires,” was written in hasty handwriting on the back of the receipt. My car was slashed in this parking lot.

My heart pounded. When I rushed outside, I discovered that one of my tires was indeed cut. When I called the police, they informed me that a number of similar incidents had occurred nearby.

My new job’s first day. I approached a man and gave him my name. “No time to waste,” he says, and gives me some strange assignments, which I begin to complete. After an hour of work, my phone rings, and it’s from the job I recently started.

“Are you aware today is your first day?” the man on the phone asks when I answer. “Yes, I am here,” I replied. David gave me some tasks to complete. “Who’s David?” the man on the phone asks.

Apparently, I didn’t give it much thought when a total stranger began giving me instructions. We laughed quite a bit. © Reddit/Unknown author

For a long time, my best friend and I were in love, but there was always something getting in the way. Our previous relationship didn’t work out. He informed me that my best friend was going to pop the question to this girl I couldn’t stand that evening while we were attending a party together. When he told me where he was going to pop the question, I hurried over to stop him and declare my love for him.

He has everything set up when I get up there, including candles, rose petals, the skyline of New York City, and anything else that would melt a girl’s heart. After reading a piece of paper he had left on the floor, I look up to see him getting down on one knee and proposing to me. © Reddit/IZ3820

I had a chocolate obsession when I was younger. bars, cookies, chocolate cake, syrup, etc. My mother once purchased some chocolate syrup, but she made sure to warn me not to consume it. She put it out of my reach on the refrigerator’s top shelf.

I pulled a kitchen chair over to the refrigerator door and climbed on top of it while she was in the restroom. I squirted roughly a gallon of the “syrup” into my mouth after grabbing it. It was mayonnaise. I picked up the incorrect bottle. © Reddit/daydreamingderpina

I never really had a relationship with my father, and my parents divorced when I was a baby. Throughout my life, I saw him a few times. No calls or birthday cards.

During a visit last year, my mother told me that she wasn’t even positive the man I believed to be my father was actually my father. I’ve been wondering why he doesn’t care about me, and I’m thinking that maybe he’s not the right guy. Thank you, mother. © ***a / Reddit

Even though he was too old (60 years old), my father enjoyed riding motorcycles. He takes a day off one day to simply enjoy the mountain weather. Sadly, he was involved in a minor collision. Despite his refusal, my brother forced him to visit the emergency room.

Although it was a very minor fracture, they informed us that he had broken his hip. Since he believed that his health came before riding, we forced him to sell his motorcycles, and he vowed never to ride again.

His doctor calls him three months later. Examining all the scans from the accident, he saw the chest X-ray. It turns out that my dad had two cancers, the thyroid and lung, both of which were easily treatable in their very early stages. I had a very difficult time finding work after the birth of my children. I have a ton of experience, but in the IT industry, it’s not good to be out of work for five years. At last, I was hired for a position that was well below my qualifications. I had been an executive before having children, so it wasn’t a management position. But it was work, and I assumed it would be a stepping stone, so it didn’t matter.

On the first day, I arrived at work and took a seat at what I believed to be my cubicle. Since there was no one to help me get started or receive training, I asked the woman next to me what her responsibilities were and to whom she reported. She gave me a crazy-eyes look and said, “I think everyone here reports to you.”

They apparently neglected to inform me that they had altered the organizational structure to elevate me to the position of department manager. My supervisor was waiting for me in my office, but I was unable to locate him. © Reddit/miss_kitty_cat
My sister was friends with her mother, and my niece had a very close friend in high school. They were constantly supporting one another.

One day, a friend of my niece recognized my dad from photos of a family get-together. We learned that we had four more sisters when she revealed that he was her grandfather. © Reddit/Unknown author

I planned a dinner after I formally proposed to my wife so that my parents and my future in-laws could get together and discuss wedding preparations, among other things. Both my future father-in-law and I halted, hurried forward, and braced as soon as they saw my stepdad.

As it happens, they had been stationed at the same Air Force base in California almost two decades prior. When my wife was a child, she was frequently babysat by my stepdad and his ex-wife. © Reddit/drewying

There was a man who worked for my grandfather, who is a farmer. The man invited some people to my grandfather’s cottage while he was away in Spain for two weeks. He didn’t tell my grandfather about it, though.

My grandfather was upset after hearing what that man had done when he got home. He invited the man to dinner and said they should have some nice food instead of just shouting at him or something.

However, the man asked, “Hey, where is all the food?” when he arrived and saw only a banana on the table. “This is the food,” my grandfather retorted, “bananas, monkeys eat bananas, you are a monkey! And you consume that.” © Reddit/bjozzi

I met a guy online, he was cool. I found out he lived less than 2 hours from where I live. We meet up. First time seeing each other’s actual faces. We’re like doppelgängers.

Turns out his father is my biological father’s older brother. Both our dads bailed before we were born. Both of us have soy allergies and Lysinuric Protein Intolerance (it’s genetic). He’s only a year older than me. © WeirdWolfGuy / Reddit
